LEARNING GRANT RECIPIENTS — 2007-2008 SCHOOL YEAR
COURTYARD GARDEN IMPROVEMENT
Awarded to Carol Cornelius and Diane McClellan, this grant will be used for
a digital camera and accessories. The garden is used as a therapy garden
for special education students and study by science and other students.
ENGAGED CITIZENSHIP PROJECT
John Bruesch, Derek
Hoovel, Nicole Lansu, Adrienne Miller, Robyn Mandolini, Joseph Scarpino and
Gina Ziccardi received a grant to purchase statistics software and online survey
services as part of a project to measure and analyze the amount of civic
participation of current and former students. Work will be performed by
Advanced Placement Political Science students.
DIGITAL LEARNING
Denise Schulze has been awarded a grant for digital cameras that will be used
to help special education students understand abstract concepts, to analyze
and break down tasks and to enhance reading and writing.
CONTENT AREA LITERACY: ILLUSTRATED
BOOKS
A grant for illustrated books that match the curriculum in all content areas
and can be used by classroom teachers was awarded to Sharon Bolinger, Melissa
Hampton and Janine Modjeski. The use of illustrated
books can increase literacy achievement and understanding.
OPERATION SNOWBALL
Kristin Bormann received a grant for presenters at a 2-day retreat, which helps
students develop and strengthen leadership skills.
GALE VIRTUAL REFERENCE LIBRARY COLLECTION
Rebecca Scott and Mindy Null were awarded a grant for purchasing e-book titles
spanning a wide variety of works such as biographies, history, science and
literature. The books would cost $100,000 if purchased in print.
