Each year the Foundation accepts grant requests from the teachers in District 99 who want to make the classroom experience more challenging, enlightening, and exciting for the students; but the activity desired or equipment needed is outside the realm of what would be normally funded under the District or department budget. Of the many worthy applications for grants from the dedicated teachers in District 99, the Foundation Grant Committee chose the following projects to be awarded grants for the 2007-2008 school year. The foundation awards 6 to 10 grants each year that vary in size between $500 and $2,500.

During the 2006-7 school year a grant application was forwarded to 99PLUS which clearly exceeded the intended scope of the Foundation’s Learning Grant, both in terms of the amount requested and the overall impact to the student body. As a result the Foundation was for the first time put in the position of funding a project at never before seen levels. In an unprecedented move after seeing a demonstration of the technology, the Foundation Board voted unanimously to approve the Grant totaling more than $11,000 for the purchase and installation of Smart Boards in the South High campus Science and Math departments.
As a result, the Foundation has decided to continue this practice of investment in the District’s future. Starting this year the Foundation Board is happy to announce the annual 99PLUS GRANT. This Grant may be awarded in addition to the Learning Grants based on the merit of responsive proposals and the availability of the Foundation to fund the award.
The Foundation has established the following guidelines to be used in evaluating applications for a 99 Plus Grant.
The applicants are expected as part of their application process to make a presentation or demonstration to the Learning Grant Committee and also if recommended by the Committee to the Foundation Board.
